The basement can be a horrifying place...

Photoshop only used for minor color/contrast adjustments. This was all captured in one 30 second exposure. I lit the shot with an old camera flash. That is me in the photo and I also drew the light creature.

Edit-12.27.07- Thank you for the Daily Deviation. I appreciate all the support. This is my first and it comes unexpected. :D

Edit-6.26.08- This was exhibited at the 2008 Orange County Fair in Costa Mesa, Ca.

Creature of the Basement by ~shubat is a great example of the marriage between surreal and conceptual photography as well as a unique and successful application of light painting techniques. Our suggester couldn't pick just a single image for me to feature, and I almost couldn't either! This one really engaged my imagination and I love how cinematic it feels because of the side lighting in a dark room. Be sure to check out the rest of ~shubat's light graffiti. glad you liked it. Actually, I'm not hiding in this shot. I used a camera flash to light the foreground and that is actually me cowering. Since the room was so dark without the flash I didn't show up as a ghost.

I used a flash to light up a pitch black room and then i did the light painting after. That is how everything stayed so sharp.
