Sierra Wave at Alabama Hills by shubat Sierra Wave at Alabama Hills by shubat
The Sierra Wave passing over the Alabama Hills. The Sierra Nevada Escarpment can be seen in the back left. The photo was taken in Spring and you can see some patches of yellow wildflowers in the foreground.

(edit) - This was exhibited at the 2008 Orange County Fair in Costa Mesa, Ca.

The shape patterns of the clouds and the rocks in the foreground are similar enough to seem like a reflection. Your composition is extraordinary! I was just in this place, and found it difficult to get the Alabamas and Sierras together.

This is simply phenomenal! Such a gorgeous and captivating landscape photograph. You have created a fantastic photograph here. the blues in the sky are beautiful. The mountains in the background majestic, the terrain in the front rugged and almost unforgiving looking. Fantastic capture!-Steven

thanks again. one of my favorite places to photograph. it can definitely get unforgiving out there. those granite boulders are like sandpaper on your hands and you have to climb over some to get to good locations... not to mention the huge rattlesnakes out there :D

Impressive. First of all it doesnt look like a HDR. Well done on that. ;)

Secondly. The colors are striking. I love the contrast and the intensity. Fabulous.

And third. The snow covered mountains in the background are superb. In the front the warm and dry desert and in the background the mountains. Great contrast between that.

My pleasure, I love the upper and lower deserts, and the chaparral surrounding most of such areas.
The HDR gave your shot such a great POP it made it all that most life like and was a treat to look at.
Keep up the wonderful work.

wow, how did you manage to do 5 pics with D40 (which doesnt do bracketing) keeping the clouds still and sharp?

I HDR everything then I composite in the best sky from the 5 bracketed shots. That way I can keep they sky perfectly clear and still get the color and tone that I want. I use a tripod and steady hands to bracket with the d40...although i do wish it could auto-bracket.
